Hoops & Books is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit with a unique platform combining the love of basketball with a passion for reading, specifically for kids ages 8-10.  We offer FREE classes with personalized basketball & reading instruction, with the goal of helping young students understand the importance of the mind-body connection.

We believe exercise is critical to the development of young people's mental health, both emotional and academic. Exercise clears and sharpens the mind, as well as regulates emotions. Unfortunately, in many schools, PE is often first to be cut when budgets are tight, and too many kids don't have regular access to sports.

Through our combination of basketball training and our curated collection of "Who Is?" books about athletes (that each child gets to keep!) we also show that reading is fun when you are inspired by the topic.

Join us on this journey where the love of the game merges with the power of knowledge.

I am currenly a junior at The Collegiate School, where, since my freshman year, I've played on the varsity basketball team as well as AAU for the Riverside Hawks Select.  I strongly believe in the idea of the student/athlete, that nuturing the one boosts the other, and I want to help young kids make that connection. When I learned that physical education is often the first thing on the chopping block when elemenatry schools face budget cuts, and that not all kids have easy access to sports teams, I was inspired to create this free class. I also hope to show kids, through the selection of books about athletes, that reading can be fun when you enjoy the topic!

I have worked as a basketball coach for the Ray Voelkel Basketball Camp, and as a camp counselor on Long Island during the summers, where I've worked with children as young as four years old in an athletic environment. I truly enjoy working with kids and helping them improve athletically as well as academically.
